About This Studio
VisArts’ fiber studio is home to both wet and dry fiber processes—everything from spinning and weaving to fabric dyeing and pattern-drafting happens in the space. The space is equipped with four large wooden work tables at counter height, sewing tables at desk height, sewing machines, a serger, spinning wheels, ironing boards, and more. Studio Policies
- Do not use any equipment you are unfamiliar with.
- Use proper protection when dyeing.
- Make sure to cover tables with white vinyl covers during any wet processes.
- White handles scissors are for fabric only
- Use rotary cutters on cuttings mats only. Always return mats to flat surface after use.
- Leave sewing machines with foot down, needle down and spool pin down. Bundle cord when returning foot pedal to bin, do not wrap tightly.
- When finished, sweep up fabric and thread scraps and collect all pins with magnetic sweeper

Materials Policies
- Students may receive materials as a part of their class such as fabric, thread etc.
- Paid access users should expect to bring in their own materials.
- Only dyes stocked by VisArts staff and teachers are permitted; do not store unmarked dyes in the fridge or cabinet.
- For open studio and paid access users you are welcome to utilize the scrap fabric bin, community thread, and community yarn.
- Keep scrap fabric folded and organized.

EQUIPMENT + TOOL USAGE DURING OPEN STUDIO
- Bobbins should be checked in and out.
- During open studio, tables, spinning equipment, cutting and pattern drafting tools, frame-weaving looms not currently in use, sewing machines, irons and ironing boards are available for use.
- Only currently-enrolled loom-weaving students have access to floor looms.
- Dyeing during open studio is not currently permitted.
