Telling Stories Slant: Writing Retold Tales
In this generative and interactive workshop, students of multiple creative writing genres will engage with and practice creating “retold tales”—or stories inspired by and derived from existing myths, fairy tales, literature, and other similar sources. These will potentially include, but not be limited to, selections from Emma Donoghue's Kissing the Witch (1997); the short story collection Remapping Wonderland (2021); John Scieszka’s The True Story of the Three Little Pigs (1989); Carol Ann Duffy's The World's Wife (2000); the anthology Mondo Barbie (1993); and others.
