Learn to Use a Sewing Machine: Make a Tote Bag

In this beginners' course, learn the basics of machine sewing. First, you'll learn how to set up a machine and practice using it. Once you feel comfortable with simple machine sewing, you'll have the opportunity to sew a tote bag to apply your new skills. Through the construction of the tote bag, students will learn how to cut and measure their fabric, consider seam allowance, and put in a lining.

Special Notes

  • Sewing machines will be provided, but you are welcome to bring your own sewing machine if you would like. If you do bring your own machine, remember to also bring bobbins that fit your machine. Please check the supply list for details about what fabric to bring to class.

Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

On-site courses do not come with studio access outside of class time. Paid open studio access is available through our Studio Access Program. Please visit visarts.org for more information.
