Introduction to Flat Pattern Making for Clothing Construction

This course will cover the fundamental skills of flat-pattern design, the process of using “blocks” or “slopers” to create sewing patterns for apparel design. Students will learn how to take body measurements for pattern making and introduce them to the two methods of dart manipulation. Students will use these methods skirt slopers in order to create new and original designs.

Special Notes

  • Students should have a basic knowledge of sewing/ garment construction.
    Accessibility notes: Many artmaking processes require the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time, fine motor skills/finger dexterity, repetitive motions, vision, and some amount of physical strength. About the Instructor

Nakia Young-EL

Nakia Young is a creative in almost every area of her life. A graduate of Stevenson university with a Bachelor's in Fashion Design she has worked as a freelance designer, pattern-maker and surface pattern designer in the years since her graduation in 2015. Young has been sewing and designing for over 20 years and also currently works as a paid theater actor.
