Drawing Outside in Richmond (this class is only offered a few times a year)

Bring along your oil pastels or oil paint sticks for this plein air class that meets in different locations around our fabulous River City. We’ll visit some of Richmond’s favorite sites – such as Pony Pasture and Maymont – and discover some new ones too! This course will meet off-site and instruction will happen in the great outdoors. We’ll cover landscape drawing and the use of color to create light, depth and value. Experienced students may use other media: soft pastel, oils, watercolor, etc.

About the Instructor

Sarah Masters

Sarah Masters is a visual artist living and working in Richmond, Virginia. Her work ranges from two-dimensional drawing and painting to three-dimensional sculpture and assemblage. At VisArts, Sarah teaches adult drawing classes both in the studio and en plein air. She shows her work locally and regionally, and her work is held in public, private, and corporate collections. Sarah is a Virginia Center for the Arts fellow. She holds degrees in Painting and Printmaking from VCU and in Botany from Duke University.
