Classes

Comic Strips, Comic Books + Graphic Novels (Ages 15 – 18)

Explore the history and techniques of comic art, a narrative artform that uses a combination of words and pictures. We’ll begin with an overview of the history of comic art, with an emphasis on the compositional methods and challenges that are unique to this artform. We’ll cover the basics of character creation, preliminary sketching, plotting and finally, into the production of a finished strip or page. Over the course of the class, we’ll discuss materials and drawing aids used in comic art, including pens, brushes, lettering guides, inks and others. We’ll be working largely in traditional media such as pencil, pen and paper, but digital media are also welcomed.
