Student Artists Celebrated at the Scholastic Art and Writing Award Reception at VisArts
Over 550 people gathered at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond on Saturday, February 18 to celebrate student artists and their winning works for the 2023 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.
An exhibition showcasing GoldKey, SilverKey, Honorable Mention and winners of the American Vision and Voices Awards was on display in the True F. Luck Gallery and throughout the VisArts building. Gold Key award winners were recognized at a special ceremony at Binford Middle School where Artist and former VisArts Resident Oura Sananikone gave the keynote address.
The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards are the nation’s longest-running and most prestigious recognition program for creative students in grades 7–12.
As the affiliate partner for the Richmond area, VisArts received over 2400 submissions from students at schools in Richmond City, Hanover County, Henrico County and Chesterfield County. Over 500 creative teens in grades 7 through 12 received regional honors. The exhibition ran from Saturday, Feb. 4 through Monday, Feb. 20
