Young + Artful to Take Place Jan. 28 from 8-11 p.m.

The Visual Arts Center of Richmond will host its third annual Young + Artful event on Saturday, January 28 from 8 to 11 p.m. at the center’s 1812 W. Main Street address.

The event, which is half art auction and half dance party, will feature music by DJ Mixie, Armenian cuisine, specialty drinks and décor inspired by the cultures of North Africa and the Middle East.

Young + Artful is hosted by the Visual Arts Creative Ambassadors, a young professionals group dedicated to supporting the mission of the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. Anyone who is under 30 years of age can join the Visual Arts Creative Ambassadors for $30 per year.

“We love the fact that this event pairs incredible emerging artists with people who are just beginning to collect,” said Stefanie Fedor, executive director of the Visual Arts Center of Richmond.

Artists who will be featured in the silent auction include Craft + Design award winners Daniel Rickey, who won the Friends of the Wood Studio at VisArts Wood and Recycled Materials Award, and Caitie Sellers, who took home both the Richmond Magazine Best Booth Design Award and the Martin-Star Cabinetry and Design New Artist Award at the 2016 show. Carli Holcomb, who will open an exhibition at VisArts in September of 2017, is also contributing a piece. Holcomb has been an artist-in-residence at Quirk as part of a collaboration between VisArts and the hotel and gallery.

More than a dozen of the participating artists are teachers at the Visual Arts Center of Richmond. They include favorites such as Holly Greenwood, Claire McCarty, Sarah Hand and Blythe King. Jared Boggess, who illustrated VisArts’ fall catalog, and Victoria Borges, who illustrated VisArts’ summer catalog, will also participate. In total, more than three-dozen artists are expected to contribute work.

Money raised from this year’s event will go toward VisArts’ Tuition Assistance Fund, which makes the center’s community art classes affordable for all people, regardless of their ability to pay.
