Raku with Paul Klassett (Adults and Youth 8+ with Registered Adult)
Join us in VisArts' Cabell courtyard for Raku! Try your hand at raku pottery firing—an exciting approach to pottery surface design! Bring family, friends, or a date for a fun time! Participants will glaze their pieces and help load them into the kiln. Grab a beer or snack from Goatocado across the street and return to VisArts' cozy back patio while you wait for your pieces to finish firing.
Special Notes
- Bring your own piece of pottery to fire (maximum dimensions to fit in our kiln are 6"x 6"x10") or buy a piece to fire from us for $10-$20. Bring extra pieces in case there's more kiln space and pay an extra $5 to fire them! Ages below 18 are welcome, if accompanied by a ticket holding adult.Each person participating must register separately for the class. Be sure to sign up ASAP to guarantee your spot. Some seats may be available the night of, but it is recommended that you sign up early to ensure the class runs. We will confirm or cancel classes by 5pm the Thursday before.
We do not contact waitlist participants for 2nd Fridays classes; please do not join a waitlist.The night of, please proceed to the front desk where they will direct you to class.
About the Instructor
Paul Klassett
Paul has a BFA in photography from the Corcoran School of Art in Washington D.C. He began doing pottery in 2000 and has been teaching ceramics at the Visual Art Center since 2012. Currently he shows at Shockoe Bottom Clay gallery in Richmond, Va. He also exhibits at various art festivals through out the central east coast.
