Classes
Introduction to Black + White Darkroom Photography (B)
Learn to take black and white photographs using 35mm film, process the film, and print photographs in a darkroom. Enjoy lots of technical guidance and aesthetic feedback, whether you’re just getting started or expanding your portfolio and skill set.
Special Notes
- The teacher will supply one box of photo paper (for teaching demonstration and student use) and 1-2 rolls of film for each student to begin with on day one. Students will be responsible for buying materials beyond that. The teacher will provide a supply list so students know recommendations for paper and film when they are ready to buy more. The chemicals in the darkroom are potentially hazardous or harmful if not handled properly (teacher will go over this in the first class). Wearing closed-toe shoes are preferred, and clothes you don't mind getting some darkroom chemicals on in the case it gets a little bit messy here or there.
Classes are confirmed one week prior to the start date. In order to help us confirm classes, please register as early as possible.

About the Instructor
Evie Metz
Evie Metz is an award-winning animator, photographer, and interdisciplinary artist. Her creative practice explores the cycle of life and the values of human beings.
Her introduction at an early age to photography was through a darkroom. That one-of-a-kind magic inspires her more experimental and expressive approach to making pictures and engaging the world around her. She also specializes in fabricating puppets and miniatures for the worlds she handcrafts and brings to life through stop-motion animation.
Her passion for teaching manifests in encouraging people to be their authentic selves while discovering their creative vision. By providing confidence with tools, techniques, and skills for professional execution, she seeks to cultivate a supportive community that begins in the classroom and continues on afterward.
