Start conversations about art!

ENGAGE Programming is provided with support from the Richard and Caroline T. Gwathmey Memorial Trust, the Windsor Foundation, and TARGET.

The Visual Arts Center of Richmond strives to secure the future of the arts by inspiring lifelong learning for all generations of artists and art enthusiasts. Each exhibition in our True F. Luck Gallery includes a hands-on, interactive ENGAGE station and a written youth gallery guide geared to help children, parents, teachers, and adults interpret art, interact with art materials, and start conversations about art. Our ENGAGE station and gallery guides are available to the public during open hours seven days a week. ENGAGE field trips are available by request.

ENGAGE field trips offer a four-part gallery program that encourages inquiry, dialogue, and interaction with the art on exhibit through a hands-on station, a written youth guide, a docent-led tour, and a relevant studio project. Students tour the exhibition with a docent and use the hands-on station and gallery guides to discuss techniques, materials, content, and information about the artist(s). Upon request, tours are followed by a studio workshop inspired by the exhibition. Studio projects encourage students to explore new media and learn about the creative process.

ENGAGE tours last 30 minutes to 2 hours and are open to the public. A full ENGAGE tour and workshop (studio project experience) lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes.

Field trips must be scheduled while exhibitions are on view.   Next available window is from February 4 – March 15.
