Beginning/Intermediate Stained Glass

Beginner/Intermediate

This is a multi-level class. Beginners will learn basic techniques to complete a stained glass panel. Intermediate and advanced students can use the class as a continuing workshop t make projects of their own choosing. The use of lead will also be taught to more experienced students. Class may be repeated. Bring a glass cutter to the first class. The instructor will discuss other tools and supplies during class.

Glass Bead Making

All Levels

A one-day lampworking workshop, the instructor will explain how to use the oxygen and propane torch to create round glass beads. Using demonstrations he will introduce basic decorative techniques such as dots and lines. Students will acquire basic skills in bead making and will be able to build upon each technique to produce more elaborate decorative patterns and sculptural beads. A materials fee of $30 is due to the instructor at the beginning of class. Enrollment is limited to six students.

Glass Blowing New!

Intermediate

This class will focus on control; the movements, plays and timing of the body and mind as it relates to working hot glass from the furnace. Team work will also be a focus in this class. Expect to push yourself past your current skill set. We will take a point A to B approach to solving problems via drawing and design work. For students with prior experience, nontraditional methods are encouraged to be explored to best convey your ideas and designs ex: use of jigs, molds, multiple axis blowing and puntiling. This class is taught at The Glass Spot, North Lombardy Street.

Glass Fusing and Slumping

All Levels

Make plates, bowls, tiles, ornamental hanging and art pieces. Create designs by cutting sheet glass and layering patterns, using color, frit, stringers and accents. Learn mold-making techniques for slumping designs into new shapes. For beginners and intermediates with some glass working experience. Class may be repeated to practice and refine skills.

Intermediate Glass Fusing and Slumping

Intermediate

For students who have completed one or more sessions of the introductory class, or who have fusing and slumping experience. Students will continue to explore techniques and refine their skills while working on personal projects. Casting solid glass forms will be introduced. Materials fees will be assessed.

Introduction to Glass Blowing New!

Beginner

Students will be introduced to a basic skill set to work hot glass out of the furnace, a scrumptious and spicy hot material.  Practicing with this rewarding and challenging material and finding a balance of flavor, time, and heat will be the focus of the course.  Special attention and the reiteration of the “order of ingredients” will play an important role in the outcome of your potential glass “eye-candy”.  All ingredients provided.  This class is taught at The Glass Spot, North Lombardy Street.

Introduction to Warm Glass: Kiln-Formed Glass New!

In this introduction to kiln-formed glass, we will create a work using each of the following processes: fusing, slumping and casting. This is a great class for those learning to work with kiln-formed glass and for those continuing to refine skills and experiment with forms.

Multiplication of Forms - Exploring Warm Glass New!

Intermediate

Alternative methods to generating positives, multiple mold making techniques and multiple warm glass processes will be the focus of instruction in this class. Students will be encouraged to explore and experiment with multiple processes to generate works that have a relationship to one another. Expect to multiply your knowledge base about forming glass in a kiln.

Beginning students will learn the fundamentals of fabricating a stained-glass panel using the copper-foil technique; they will finish at least one project of their choosing. Experienced students will do a panel of their choice while perfecting skills or learning new techniques. Class may be repeated. Materials list to be mailed.
