Colographs and Monotypes

Six weeks of fun and easy printmaking. If you’ve never tried printmaking before this is your class. Making Monotypes are wonderful! But be careful once you make on you cannot stop. And making collographs are an “anything” goes way of making a relief print. No acids, no mysterious chemicals, and non-toxic. No previous printmaking experience necessary. How can you resist?

Drawing with Oil Paint Sticks New!
Beginner/Intermediate
Explore the possibilities of working with oil paint sticks. This medium combines the directness of drawing with the color density of oil paint. Paint sticks are compatible with oil pastels and appropriate for mixed media applications. This medium is highly portable and offers easy clean up, a good choice for travel or plein air. Intermediate Watercolor

Introduction to Abstraction in Oil
Intermediate/Advanced
This will explore the fundamentals of abstraction. We will learn how to see the world in a different way thus breaking down visual elements to their purest form. We will do exercises that will focus on accurate representation and how to break down those representative forms. Students will be asked to concentrate on color, shape, texture, surface quality, dimension and pattern. Students will also be expected to look at and study different abstract artists for their own enrichment and guidance. The class will consist of two five-week projects. Bring your oil supplies and ideas.

Introduction to Book Arts
All Levels
Students will be using handmade paper, machine- made paper and mat board to explore the basics of bookbinding. Learn to make your own photo albums, sketchbooks and journals. Students will be introduced to a variety of binding structures while making four different types of books (time allowing). There will be an overview of materials used in traditional and nontraditional bookbinding as well as discussion about personalizing your books.

Introduction to Relief Printing

Introduction to Silk Screen Printing

Students will learn the basics of screen printing and create images for transfer to both paper and fabric. Painted screens, stenciling and other transfer techniques will be taught and practiced. Introduction to the Figure
Beginner/Intermediate
Emphasis is on learning the anatomy and structure of the figure, and how light reveals its forms, as well as exploring various media and techniques such as pencil, pastel pencils, charcoal, ink washes and oil sketches. Each session begins with quick gesture drawings of the nude model; the model assumes a long pose for the remainder of the class.The last two or three weeks of the course will be devoted to an extended pose. Japanese Block Printing

Wood block printing covers the basics in carving, inking, and printing a linoleum block and wood block using traditional methods. Oil Portraiture

Painting from live models, this class offers artists of all levels methods of seeing the face in simplified forms, achieving convincing proportions, values and colors. Oil has been used by the great artists of past centuries to capture the subtleties of flesh tones, and we will use this flexible medium to create expressive paintings of the human face. Painting in Oil
Beginner/Intermediate
A variety of subject matter will be explored to build basic technique, including still-life, landscape, portraiture and figure painting. This class can be used as an introduction to oil, or used by the more experienced painter to push the boundaries of existing skill. More advanced students can use the time for personal projects with assistance from the instructor in an encouraging environment. Effective use of composition, form, value, and color is emphasized, with the goal of increasing observational skills to develop realistic oil paintings. Course may be repeated.
