Intermediate Letterpress Printing
Intermediate to Advanced
Students will learn the different capabilities of the presses in our print shop. We will also learn different techniques of make-ready to fine tune and improve the crispness of your prints and also create some special effects! A $20, refundable galley deposit is due on the first day of class to ensure that all type is returned at the conclusion of your course. Students are asked to pay this deposit by check.

Intermediate/Advanced
Refine your skills and continue to explore the creative potential of screen printing! Photo-emulsion processes, hand-painted techniques, stenciling and other transfer methods will be covered. Students may explore printing on paper, fabric, wooden panels, and other materials will be explored. This class uses non-toxic inks. This is a great class to take with a friend!

Introduction to Bookbinding Intensive
All Levels
Are you a writer or visual artist, always scribbling away in a blank book? Learn to create your own unique journals, sketchbooks, and albums. In this class you will learn the nuts and bolts of bookbinding. We will cut, fold, glue, and stitch our way through various book forms, including pamphlets, accordions, exposed spine stitching, and hardcover journals. Some techniques for decorating covers will also be covered. All materials and tools will be provided, though students may want to bring their own materials and embellishments to customize their books. Beginners welcome!

Experience the Art Center’s growing Letterpress program! In recent years, letterpress printing has regained momentum in the printmaking field. The medium offers creative possibilities and a unique satisfaction, not possible in modern desktop publishing. Students will learn to operate our antique proofing press, and use it to print their own creative project using wooden and metal foundry type. A $20, refundable galley deposit is due on the first day of class to ensure that all type is returned at the conclusion of your course. Students are asked to pay this deposit by check.

Beginners through Intermediate
Relief printmaking is a visually striking art form. In this class, you will learn the process of carving linoleum to create bold lines and patterns for single-colored works of art. The basics of using inks, tools, papers, and printing by hand and with the printing press will be covered in this class. Papers and tools will be provided for the first class, but students should bring their own printmaking papers after the first class. Students who have taken this class before are welcome to take it again to further develop their skills.

Beginners
Students will learn to put VisArts’ new edition to the print shop - a treadle operated (foot powered) Platen Press – to good use! While using old wood-cuts and hand set type you will explore the basics of setting type and locking up forms to print your own cards, stationery and more! A $20, refundable galley deposit is due on the first day of class to ensure that all type is returned at the conclusion of your course. Students are asked to pay this deposit by check.

Hold onto your squeegees folks! Students will be immersed into the world of handmade and computer based methods of composing multi colored screen-prints. Novice and journeyman alike are welcome to come take advantage of the Visual Arts Center's multifaceted printmaking studio. Experience the joy that is printing water based inks onto a variety of surfaces including but not limited to wood, fabric, and paper.

Steam Roller Woodcuts
All Levels
In this class, students will make huge woodcut prints, carved on sheets of plywood or particle board and printed under the weight of a steamroller. The class will focus on image prep, carving, and proofing. Students will have the opportunity to print during VisArts’ annual spring Open House, scheduled for March 25. Please come to class with an illustration ready to go. Basic tools will be available, but you may want to bring your own wood carving set.
