Internships

VisArts internships provide an environment for college and high school students to participate in the daily operations and to expand their educational experiences outside of the classroom.  A designated supervisor assigns intern projects and tasks.  In your application, please specify your area of interest and, if applicable, with whom you would like to work most closely with. Part-time internships may be available during the spring, summer and fall semesters. All internships are unpaid. Internships are available to high school, college and graduate students, career changers and retirees. All interns must be at least 16 years old. All candidates must submit a volunteer application, resume and two letters of reference to:

Spring Semester – November 15

Marketing and Public Relations Internship

Multiple positions exist in the Marketing and Public Relations department for students who want to gain knowledge while helping promote a very worthy cause.  Assigned tasks will give interns real-world experience in a fast-paced environment and will provide the students with multiple products for inclusion on their resumes.

Internship responsibilities

  • Assist with social media posting and management that inspires interaction
  • Write fun, informative articles for the newsletter and blog
  • Design and distribute event posters & fliers
  • Update local community calendars with upcoming events
  • Write/distribute press releases
  • Capture compelling photos/videos

 Skills

  • Strong writing and communication skills
  • Organized and dependable
  • Knowledgeable in a variety of software packages to include: Adobe InDesign & Photoshop, WordPress, and Microsoft Office.
  • Photography/videography/editing

Clay Studio Internship & Field Study

Internships and Field Studies in the Clay Studio are a semester long commitment with an obligation of 8+ hours per week. For students earning college credit for the Internship or Study, the hourly commitment will reflect the academic department’s weekly time requirements.

Interns and Students will work with the Studio Manager to learn the daily operations of an active clay studio within in a vibrant community arts and education center. Assigned tasks will enhance the Interns’ and Students’ proficiency in the studio environment and deepen their understanding of their medium and craft.

Interns and Students will participate in:

  • Preparing glazes
  • Supervised kiln operation
  • Monitoring open studio hours
  • Managing clay inventory
  • Assisting instructors
  • Proper studio and equipment maintenance

Art Education Internship

We offer an opportunity for a self motivated student with exceptional people skills interested in joining our art education and outreach programs. This internship allows a student to gain understanding of nonprofit management with experience in teaching practice and lesson planning in our fast paced after school youth programs.

Time Commitment: 15 weeks (January‐May dates according to academic year), 6‐8 hours a week in the afternoon. At the start of each session, the intern and VisArts Administrators will set goals and timelines with the intern. Bi‐weekly feedback sessions will be scheduled to trouble shoot and assist in the achievement of these goals.
